While bathing my daughter, I usually like to give her a nice scrub and check for ticks or knots in her fur. As always, Gloria knowing that its about time to take a bath stands outside the house waiting for me to give a nice splash and begin our routine.
Things were going normally as it always does and i spot a knot behind Gloria's ear (which is something that is quite common in her case). So i picked up my scissors and was ready to free the knot when suddenly her head tilted backwards at the same time as I cut. I jerked...
She didn't react to the incident and for a moment I thought I'd missed and no harm done. But a gut feeling kept urging that I should check thoroughly and true enough, there was an inch cut behind Gloria's ear. It didn't look deep but being able to see the subcutaneous was enough to bring a sudden chill down my spine. My daughter was bleeding... I caused it and I don't know what to do. All I could do was to wrap a towel around her head and asked her to stand still while I ran inside the house yelling frantically that I'm bringing Gloria to the vet.
Mum ran out from her room and I briefly explained the situation to her. She took a look at Gloria and was assured me that she can take care of Gloria and that Gloria just needs a couple of stitches. When I heard "stitches", my heart sank. Gloria is my 1st daughter and I really didn't know what to do. Mum got geared up and prepared everything she needed for the case. She treated the situation just as she would in the hospital. Andrew and I held Gloria down and ensure there was minimum movement from her. Mum started by cleaning Gloria's wound with some antiseptic and proceed to stitching. I couldn't bear to watch.
After the whole ordeal, Gloria was let back to her crate to rest while I went out and spent over RM50 on treats for her. My hands were shaky and chills were still running up and down my spine. I just can't get that image of her lacerated wound out from my head. I feel so bad~
I'm so sorry Gloria.
